Welcome to the Shoreline Physical Education Wiki!
We're glad you are here! Explore the site, get ideas, see what others are doing, and leave ideas of your own by browsing the index of pages.
This wiki is designed to be a collaborative knowledge base for and by Shoreline Physical Education Specialists, but anyone is welcome to browse. If you are a physical education specialist, we encourage you to become a member of the wiki and contribute your knowledge!
    Join the Wiki!
I created this Wiki as a result of the fabulous ideas that our district physical education specialists have been able to share with one another in the past during periods of collaboration scheduled by the district. Unfortunately, the days when we can get together look like they may be gone, but I don't want us to lose the chance to broaden our programs with the many great ideas that each of us can share.
I tried to make this wiki as user friends as possible. Please checkout the index of pages to see what subject areas are available (and please let me know if you would like me to add another page). There are two ways to contribute. The first way is to become a member of this wiki and to click on the edit button in the upper right corner and add to the text that is already written. The other way to contribute it to email me your ideas and I can add to the wiki. My hope is that we can build a strong array of activities for all of our students to learn from.
In addition, if there is anything that you would like to discuss, please feel free to click the discussion tab on the top of each page.
    Thanks and enjoy!

Setup a set of nets going length-wise across the gym. Split the class into two teams with one on each side of the net. Setup three or four unfolded mats on each side of the net. Students are to use badminton rackets to hit birdies across the net using a badminton swing (underhand or overhand hitting ok). The object is to land the birdies on the other teams mats. I called these mats the ships and the idea was to get enough birdies on each mat to sink it. For younger classes I started with small numbers to sink a ship (2 or 3 birdies). For older groups I would go up to 6 or 7. Students are allowed to guard each ship and knock away any birdies flying toward a ship, but they cannot be touching a ship at any time. Students can only pickup birdies off the gym floor. All birdies on a ship must stay there until the ship has sunk. I usually throw a deck ring on a sunken ship so everyone knows that it is already out of the game. If a student hits or drops a birdie on their own ship they are allowed to pick it up and continue using it. To spread the kids out, I have also played this with kids assigned to a particular ship. When their ships is sunk then they can move over to help another team guard their ship.

    Badminton Zoo
Setup four squares using multiple mats. Place an opened mat in each square. Dump out your badminton birdies and have each student with a racket. Place 4 rubber animals on each mat. Students are to hit the birdies over the nets to try to land them on the other teams zoo. If they land it in the zoo, then they get to move across and take an animal. Goal is to get as many animals for their zoo as possible.

    Castle Ball
Have class practice building castles out of 6 hula hoops. Setup 3 or 4 castles on each side of the gym. The object is to knock down the other teams castles while keeping your castles up. Teams are allowed to rebuild a castle when it gets knocked over. Teams are not allowed to throw at castles that are being rebuilt. First team to have all of the other teams castles not built will be the winner.
    Castle Pool
This is a version of Castle Ball. Two teams on each side of the gym. Each team sets up one castle in a corner of their side. Each team has 7 bowling pins setup around their side. Only one person can guard a pin at a time. The goal of the game is to get all 7 of the bowling pins knocked down and then to knock out the castle. Just like in pool, if the castle is knocked down before the 7 bowling pins then the throwing team loses.

    Snake Ball
Divide playing area into 4 quadrants. Divide class into 5 teams with one team watching from the outside. Place a fitness ball or large ball inside the middle of the quadrants. Players from each team try to hit the large ball with gator balls moving it into other peoples quadrants. If the ball ever touches a person on a team then that team is out and is replaced by the out team. Setup a time limit and whichever quadrant the ball is in at the end of the time would be out or if the ball ever touches the wall in a teams quadrant they are out.

    Any Ball
This is a sort of ultimate ball game. You can use any type of item to throw that you would like. Changing the object makes the students change their strategies. Each team has one goalie who has a foot in their hula hoop and another hula hoop in their hand. One team starts with the object and passes it to teammates. Students can not move when they have the object in their hands. Student try to move that object up to the goalie as to throw it through the hoop. If the object is dropped or hits the ground the other teams picks it up and starts going their direction with it.

Spilt the class into two teams. Place rubber dots at the end lines of each team. Place 8 bowling pins on the 16 rubber dots. Do the same thing for the other team. Students are to throw gator balls at the bowling pins and if they got knocked over they get to take that pin back to their team. When they get a pin they add it to the empty spots on their side. The goal of the team is to fill all of the empty rubber spots.

    Frog Pond
Place polydots all around the gym. Place a container in the middle of the gym. Students stand on the poly dot and attempt an underhand throw into the container. If they make it into the container they get to bring back the poly dot to their team (acts as points/could give each color a different point value).

    Container Ball
Split the class into two teams. Place two mats on end in each corner to create a container. Lay out a flat mat in the other corner to act as a jail. Place balls in the middle of the gym. Students are trying to get as many (or a certain number) of balls in the other teams container as possible. Guarding the container and/or jail is allowed. Students can throw to the container from their side or they can move to the other teams side to attempt a shorter throw to the container. If tagged on the other teams side they are sent to the jail. To get out of jail the student must catch a ball from a teammate.

    Lacrosse Shooting Stars
Split the class into multiple teams in the gym. Each team will have one ball and one lacrosse stick. Set out lots of poly dots all over the floor and different distances to a basketball hoop. Students are to move to the poly dot and using the lacrosse stick throw the ball to the hoop. If the ball touches the backboard, rim, or net they get to take the spot back to their team. Make the different colors be worth varying amounts of points.
    Receiver Rescue
Split the class into two teams. Everyone has a stick and put lots of soft balls (3 inch gator balls) all over the floor. Each team chooses two students to act as the teams starting throwers. They start on their side of the gym and everyone else on their team starts in their jail. Throwers toss the balls to their teammates. If a teammate catches a throwers ball then they get to join the thrower on their side. They can throw and get more teammates out of jail or they can defend the other teams jail. We added a second way to get out of jail and that it for the people in jail to throw a ball to the throwers and if it is caught they can get out of jail. If anyone intercepts a pass from the other team, the thrower is sent back to jail.
4 Team or 6 Team Lacrosse
Setup six big boxes in the corners of the gym. Inside each box place at least 3 bowling pins. No goalies are allowed and each team starts with a couple of small gator balls. Students try to move around the gym and knock over the other teams bowling pins. If they knock over a pin they get to grab it and bring it back to their square. Teams can only shoot at a goal once before moving on to another goal. Students are not allowed to move with a ball in their basket.
    Continuos Pin Lacrosse
Setup 15 poly dots on each side of the gym. Place 8 bowling pins on 8 of the dots. Separate the class into two teams. Students have to stay on their side of the court and throw the gator balls using the lacrosse stick. If they knock over a bowling pin then they get to retrieve that pin and place it on one of their empty poly dots. Their goal is to fill up all of their poly dots before the other team.

    Pickleball Battleship
Setup 4 teams with rackets and lots of nerfy small balls. I use lollipop paddles for the younger students. Make 4 squares with cones in the gym and give each team a square to work in. Set up a rubber poly dot with one bowling pin, a tub with two bowling pins, and a folded mat with 3 bowling pins. Goal is to knock off the bowling pins with the nerf ball. If they knock one down they get to go grab it and add it to their ships. Defense of the ships is allowed.
    4 Square badminton
Setup 4 square and a team in each square. Set out a mat (I unfolded mine to make a square). Students are to hit the birdies onto the mat. If a team gets 5 birdies on their mat they are moved down to the bottom square. Goal is to get to the top square and stay there. Defense is fine as long as the team stays off the mat.

Oscar's Garbage Can- (see throwing skills) with volleyball hits
Volleyball Catch- A good way for younger classes to learn how to rotate and work as a team. Place on each side of the net just like a traditional way of playing volleyball. Instead of requiring bumps and sets..students are able to catch the volleyball when it comes over and use a volleyball hit to send it back over the net. They may still use the 3 hits per side and rotate when they get the serve back. Good for 3rd grade...possibly 2nd grade.
